Liberal Democrat Town Councillor for Southborough North ward Learn more

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council are planning to introduce car park charges in the well used John Street car park from April 1st. While the first hour will be free, any other parking between 8 am and 6pm Monday – Saturday and 10 am and 5 pm Sunday will incur a charge. The maximum daily charge will be £4.50.
I believe that the Council have not thought through the consequences of these proposals. Having no charge for the first hour will help some traders but the introduction of these charges will undoubtedly have an impact on nearby residents. Anyone trying to avoid paying these charges will inevitably park in nearby streets which already have their own parking problems.
The consultation runs until January 27th and you can comment online or get more details from here
The proposed charges are Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm; Sunday from 10am to 5pm
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Trevor. Once again the Conservative councillors are silent on a matter which I believe will have a detrimental effect on the residents of this area. More drivers will be trying to park in the side roads to avoid paying the charges for all day parking which could be as much as £1,500 in a full year.
